Organization: Otolaryngology Job Summary: The Research Analyst-III in the Vanderbilt Music Cognition Lab Rhythm, Language, & Genetics group (Dr.
Reyna Gordon, PI) will carry out NIH-funded studies focused on the biological basis of human musicality traits and exploring potentially shared genetic architecture with other communication traits (like language), health traits, and related neural endophenotypes.
Currently directions include the study of musical rhythm, language disorders, speech-language traits, and hearing and hearing loss.
Projects in the lab are directed by Dr.
Gordon and/or Dr.
Srishti Nayak.
These studies involve complex computational expertise as well as experience working with human participants and research database management.
The candidate must have strong programming/computational skills, experience working with large datasets, experience with administration of language or cognitive assessments with adults and/or children, meticulous organizational and data analytic skills, and an interest in the brain, and cognition.
The ideal candidate will be willing and excited to learn new computational techniques and read new literatures.
Research activities will take place in collaboration with colleagues at the Vanderbilt Genetics Institute.

Design and supervise analytic pipelines for computational genetic and phenotypic data with minimal supervision Conduct analysis with state-of the art genomic methods such as GWAS, PheWAS, Polygenic Scoring, gene-tissue expression (all "dry lab" computational complex trait analyses) Establish protocols and pipelines for complex trait genetic data analyses and phenotypic studies Supervision of data analysis projects by junior lab members Supervise RA-I's and RA-II's in carrying out data analysis Mentor and train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior research staff in programming basics and complex trait genetics data analysis methods (including GWAS and post-GWAS methods) Provide other technical guidance to the team as needed Data collection and management and day-to-day lab functioning Collect specialized language assessments, EEG, and eye-tracking assessments from human participants, as needed, in collaboration with other research staff and students in the lab Manage language and musicality data (behavioral and questionnaire) in Redcap and other high-dimensional databases; perform QC of data Supervise undergraduate trainees and interns in data behavioral and EEG collection Track and document distribution of research compensation to participants, in collaboration with Finance staff in the department Manuscript preparation: contribute as co-author to research publications Prepare figures and tables of research results Write portions of methods and results according to field standards Plan and coordinate literature review with other research personnel and organize citation databases Work with research team on generating new results for grant proposals and student projects Attend conferences in the field to learn new methods and co-present data Our Academic Enterprise is one of the nation's longest serving and most prestigious academic medical centers.
